Pennsylvania Volunteer of the Civil War



William H. Johnston

William H., son of John Johnston, "The emigrant," was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania, died aged fifty-eight years.

He learned the trade of blacksmith, which he followed until the civil war in which he served as a private of Company G, Fifty-fourth Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, 54th Regiment. He received a severe wound, which left him in such a disabled condition that he was never again able to follow his trade. He was a Democrat in politics, and a member of the German Reformed church.

He married Louisa Schrock, born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania. Children: Ella, married Conrad Baker, of Berlin, Pennsylvania ; John Harry, of whom further. Charles, deceased; Elizabeth, married Asa J. Rogers, of Uniontown, Pennsylvania ; Frank, United States recruiting officer; Joseph, deceased; Anna, deceased; Emma, twin of Anna, deceased; Charles, deceased; William, deceased.
