DIGEST OF JOHN F.MEGINNESS' HISTORY OF LYCOMING COUNTY
Jersey shore contributed one company to 117th regiment of 13th Cavalry -- it participated in invasion of North Carolina -- George H.Jones, Musician early in Civil War, rose to command company in 194th Infantry. The Borough of Jersey Shore and vicinity contributed one company to the 117th Regiment of the 13th Pa. Cavalry. It was Company G, commanded first by Captain Alexander H. McHenry, later by Captain Robert Brown. It served until the winter of 1864-65 in the Army of the Potomac and was, thereafter, under the command of Col. Marvin Kirwin. He took the regiment to North Carolina where it opened and maintained communications between Gen. Scofield and Gen. Sherman.
